Micron Technology, Inc., Announces Delivery of the Industry's First Samples of 1 Gigabit DDR2 SDRAMs
Micron First to Ship High Density DDR2 for
Next-Generation Server Platforms
BOISE, Idaho—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Oct. 23, 2003—
Micron Technology, Inc. (NYSE:MU), has shipped the industry's
first 1Gb DDR2 SDRAM components. Micron's 1.8 Volt 1Gb DDR2-400 and
DDR2-533 SDRAM components are packaged in industry standard FBGA
packaging and are manufactured on 0.11 micron process technology. The
combination of high-speed and high-density provided by Micron's 1Gb
DDR2 components enable next generation server technology.
"Micron's early demonstration of 1Gb DDR2 is another major
industry milestone for us," said Terry Lee, Executive Director of
Advanced Technology and Strategic Marketing for Micron's Computing and
Consumer Group. "Micron is the only memory supplier to have shipped
samples of 256Mb, 512Mb, and 1Gb DDR2 components to major customers.
We continue to increase our leadership by delivering new technology in
advance of our competition, and by providing a broad portfolio of the
most advanced products to our customers. With all three generations of
DDR2 we are able to provide module densities ranging from 128MB to
4GB, meeting the needs of desktop, portable, and server applications."
Micron is taking a leadership role in providing advanced memory
technology to server, desktop, and notebook computing customers. The
company is leading server enablement with first samples of 1Gb DDR2
components, first samples of 1Gb DDR components manufactured on 0.11
micron process technology, and first samples of 4GB DDR SDRAM
registered DIMM modules. Micron provided early samples of both 256Mb
and 512Mb DDR2 components and was the first to validate 256Mb DDR2
components with Intel. Micron is the only memory company to
demonstrate high speed, high density DDR and DDR2 platforms to enable
both desktop and server customers. Micron also worked very closely
with leading graphics providers to define next generation Graphics DDR
SDRAM (GDDR3) and was the first to sample GDDR3 components to multiple
graphics providers.
